HEAD COACH: JAMAL ROBERTS (Coach Roberts)

Jamal Roberts is the founder and Head Coach of Razor Aquatics. He started teaching children how to swim in 2003. Jamal swam for Wayne State University in Detroit from 2006-2009. After a couple of years as an assistant swim coach in the Detroit Recreation Department, he started a swim team in September of 2007 known as the Razors. The Razors became a USA Swimming certified swim club In April of 2008 and then became known as Razor Aquatics. Jamal started Razor Aquatics simply as a recreational program designed to get more African American youth to participate in competitive swimming. In 2014, he shifted Razor Aquatics from a recreational team to a specialty program designed to not only get more African American youth to swim, but also to compete at a high level. Since then, he has coached multiple State champions, numerous State Championship medalists (individual and relays), numerous MI Junior Olympic champions, multiple Zone Championship Medalists, and numerous high-point winners at City Championship meets. He has also serves as the head coach for Team Michigan at the Central Zone Championship Meet and Mid-States All-Star Championship Meet.
